DJ-6 Porosity Detector

DJ-6 Porosity Detector is employed in the non-destructive detection and location of pinholes, bare spots or thin points in protective coatings applies for corrosion protection over metal and concrete (conductive) surfaces. With corrosion an extremely costly and disruptive worldwide problem, preventative determination becomes essential. For newly constructed tanks, pipelines and other installations, where corrosion prevention coatings have had to be applies, specifications will normally call for a specific coating to a specific thickness. Principle

The detector generates a high DC voltage that is applied to the coating surface through a probe. The detector is connected to the substrate via the high voltage returned. When the probe is passed over a coating flaw, then the electrical circuit is completed and current flows from the probe to the substrate. As a result, audible and visual alarms are activated in the detector and a spark may be produced at the flaw.
