Ultrasonic Flaw Detector (UT)

Detects: Internal flaws in metals — cracks, porosity, inclusions, incomplete penetration.
Materials: Steel, aluminum, copper, forgings, welds, pipes.
Features: Portable, no radiation, good for thick sections, uses waveform analysis.
Limitations: Not ideal for very thin, coarse-grained or porous materials.

Magnetic Particle Flaw Detector (MT)

Detects: Surface and near-surface cracks on ferromagnetic materials.
Materials: Carbon steel, alloy steel and other magnetic metals.
Features: Low cost, intuitive, flaws show directly as magnetic particle patterns.
Limitations: Only for surface/near-surface flaws; cannot test non-magnetic metals (stainless steel, aluminum, copper).

X-Ray Flaw Detector (RT)

Detects: Internal volumetric flaws — porosity, inclusions, voids.
Materials: Almost all solid materials.
Features: Visual imaging, film or digital records available.
Limitations: Radiation hazard, requires protection, bulky equipment, less sensitive to planar cracks.
